Cawston Elementary is proud to offer many different programs to help support our students.

Title I -- Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Federal funds are currently allocated through four statutory formulas that are based primarily on census poverty estimates and the cost of education in each state.

Title IV, Safe & Drug – Free Schools / Communities -- The purpose of Title IV: Safe and Drug-Free Schools is to support programs that prevent violence and the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs in and around schools. Schools and districts are to involve parents and coordinate with community efforts in developing these programs. The goal is to foster a safe and drug-free learning environment that promotes student academic achievement.

SAFE After School Program -- The Students Achieving in Fun Environments (SAFE) and Zone programs are funded by Proposition 49 voted on by the citizens of California to provide a safe and nurturing environment for youth following school dismissal. Hemet Unified School District in partnership with Valley Wide Recreation and Park District, (PAL) Police Activities League and other community agencies to provide a safe after school environment for students offering opportunities for enrichment, academic support, physical education, and creative learning.

English Learner Programs-- Hemet Unified School District serves a diverse student population. In accordance with state guidelines, Hemet Unified School District has implemented programs for English Learners in order to provide them with access to the District’s core curriculum. The District-wide Plan for English Learners focuses on all students of diverse language backgrounds and their needs. High expectations for all students ensure that academic success is achieved. The District-wide Plan addresses the identification, program design, curriculum, staffing, instructional materials, and parent training opportunities.

Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) -- PBIS is a framework or approach for assisting school personnel in adopting and organizing evidence-based behavioral interventions into an integrated continuum that enhances academic and social behavior outcomes for all students. PBIS IS NOT a packaged curriculum, scripted intervention, or manualized strategy. PBIS IS a prevention-oriented way for school personnel to (a) organize evidence-based practices, (b) improve their implementation of those practices, and (c) maximize academic and social behavior outcomes for students. PBIS supports the success of ALL students. Cawston is proud to be recognized with a Silver Medal for PBIS implementation.
